No hurry in Africa

Times do not fly in Agadir. I am an expert in having rest in the most terrible cities in the World. I will never forget the awful week spent in Almaty waiting for the Uzbekistan visa. And how about those five days in Aktau whishing for the ferry which crosses the Caspian Sea? Agadir is not so ugly and unfriendly. The beach is good, but the people are horrible. I mean, the Moroccans are Ok, in the Moroccan way of being Ok, of course. But the French and Germans are a plague. I am staying in the Marhaba Hotel, a non expensive one near de bay. All the customers are European old people. They are not here because the History or the Culture of Morocco. They do not care. They’d probably prefere the French Riviere. They are here because is cheap. But if you look this country looking for beach facilities and tourist development, what you will find is really crappy. So they are. They look at me thinking who is that ugly astronaut. I do either looking at them.

About the motorcycle problem. I have to say thanks to Grant Johnson for setting up the motorcycle travellers website www.horizonsunlimited.com I found there a really good info. There was posted the e-mail address of a French guy in Agadir who organizes bike tours in the desert. I asked him for help. “The French guy” turned up Jean Brucy, a Paris Dakar racer (20 times) and a very good guy. He took me to a garage run by another French, Olivier Patricolo. They are helping me, and they are a good point to know if you are travelling over here.

If my problem is just the coil, I have two solutions. One coil is coming from UK by DHL. This morning the box was in Casablanca, so it will be arriving here tomorrow (no hurry in Africa). Another option is buying the coil here. One local mechanic fixes police motorcycles in Agadir. He has a coil. But he asks 2000 dirhams, about 180 euros for it. He thinks I am in a real need. And I would be if I didn’t ask for the spare from England. But at least once in life one should have more time to loose than an African guy. I will wait for the UK coil.

The local mechanic will have to eat his or wait till another BMW R100 G/S (after 1985) rider breaks the coil in Agadir. It will sure happen some day, but maybe not this decade. No problem, there is no hurry in Africa.
